Renaissance Leadership – Florence

For a thousand years, Europe has been hurrying slowly. A dark age, it is whispered. But then something happens. In Italy, but above all in Florence. A spring like no other. The age of change is not now, it existed then! We know the names: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Botticelli. Do you think it is pure coincidence that all of these appear within a short period in Florence? Then the city has nothing to teach you. But if it is not coincidence …?

In the course of two or three generations, things happen here that change Europe and carry far into our own time. This does not only apply to art. Paradigm shifts occur in various fields such as philosophy, political science, architecture, management and economics. Niccoló Machiavelli writes a book that scares the water out of the leaders of the time and lays the foundation for realpolitik. Marsilio Ficino bets everything on human goodness and gives humanism a cradle in Florence. Filippo Brunelleschi builds a dome on Florence’s Duomo that revolutionizes the art of architecture. And everything happens suddenly and quickly.

The Renaissance is about growth. About development, about diversity, innovations and not least reflections on power and its dark sides. Man is obliged to accomplish something. Life demands that we do something about it. Realizing oneself is done by using one’s best qualities.
