The Hero’s Journey – Troy

Here the Greeks conquered the world while avenging the bride-robbery of the ages. But the birth of the Roman Empire can also be traced back to here. Here Achilles won eternal glory, while at the same time finding his death. And here Odysseus defeated the Trojans with his cunning plan. The journey home was all the longer.

The course explores the dark side of leaders, everything that can blind one in the pursuit of glory and immortality. “Life is a journey,” we say today, pointing out that humans are always developing towards something, always on the move.

Troy is the city of myth. This is where it all begins. The Greek heroes went to Troy to fight the greatest battle of all time. Through courage and cleverness, the city eventually fell. But for some, the journey home would prove to be just as arduous. Here, divine legends, heroic tales and facts are woven together into a fascinating story that still resonates with its adventurous exploits, its violent emotions and its underlying message about a journey we all undertake: a journey towards greater self-awareness.

On his journey, Odysseus encounters a number of dangers that threaten his life. In addition to being exciting, the encounters can be understood as encounters with forces within Odysseus himself. In this way, the heroic myth hits the mind of today. By systematically facing and overcoming the trials we all face, we can gain increased self-awareness and realize ourselves.

In Athens, philosophy takes the place of religion. Here the great schools of the West’s greatest thinkers are founded; Socrates, Plato, Aristotle. Here stands the cradle of democracy. Here Odysseus and Socrates, Homeric psychology and Western self-understanding meet. And when leadership today begins with the motto “know thyself”, it becomes all the more important to undertake such a journey. The seminar is run on a boat from Istanbul to Athens, and is linked by leadership themes and island stops along the way.
