German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche railed against human self-censorship and the tendency to hide in the crowd. But leadership requires courage, clarity, and direction.
The superman is that – who overcomes the cowardice in himself, and dares to choose his own path, said Nietzsche. Nietzsche did not quite believe that such people would come, but then Frjtjof Nansen came along. A leader and founder type, nation builder and true hero. Kristiania in the 1880s is a study in courage, drive and the will to create something beyond oneself. These are modern demands that leaders often face. And in what Kristiania was before, we find many answers.
Kristiania in the late 19th century is an emergence of leadership
figures, original thinkers, artists and innovative forces. Leadership is about one’s own point of view, choices and responsibility.
The seminar moves on historical grounds in Oslo where we follow three environments.
Henrik Ibsen and his demands for leaders with royal ideas: Ibsen’s tribute to leaders with commitment and royal ideas, and the total contempt for cowardice. Leadership is about choice and one’s own point of view.
The Christiania bohemia as a resource and creative environment. Are the answers related to leadership more heavy than most people think? Are leaders able to believe in their own project?
The Polar Explorers and Fritjof Nansen: A study in daring, strategic flair, action and a will to create something great. Leadership is actions. And nothing is impossible, the impossible just takes a little longer.
