The Hero’s Journey – Troy

HERE THE GREEKS WON THE WORLD WHILE THEY AVENGED THE MOST INFAMOUOS BRIDENAPPING OF ALL TIME. BUT THE BIRTH OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE CAN ALSO BE TRACED BACK TO THIS MOMENT, WHEN ACHILLES ACHIEVED ETERNAL HONOUR, WHILE ALSO MEETING HIS DOWNFALL. AND HERE ODYSSEUS VANQUISHED THE TROJANS WITH HIS CUNNING PLAN. HIS HOMECOMING, HOWEVER, MET WITH DELAYS.

The course explores the darks sides of the leadership role, everything that blinds us in the pursuit of honour and immortality. «Life is a journey,» we say today and cite how human beings are always evolving towards something, always underway. 

Troy is the city of mythologies. This is where everything begins. The Greek heroes went to Troy to fight the most epic battle of all time. Through courage and cunning the city was finally conquered. But for some, the journey home would prove equally arduous. Here ancient myths, epic verse and facts are interwoven into a fascinating tale which continues to move us through its underlying message of a journey we all take: a journey towards greater self-knowledge. Along the way Odysseus encounters several life-threatening perils. While these encounters are exciting, they can also be understood as confrontations with forces at work in Odysseus’ inner life. The heroic myth hereby coincides with modern-day thought. By systematically confronting and overcoming the trials we all run up against, we can gain greater self-knowledge and self-realization. 

 

In Athens, philosophy takes the place of religion. Here the great schools of the most important Western philosophers, Socrates, Plato, Aristoteles, were founded. Here we find the cradle of democracy. Here Odysseus and Socrates meet, along with the Homerian psychology and Western self-perception. And when the manager role of today starts with the motto «know yourself», it becomes even more important to carry out such a journey. The seminar is held on board a boat travelling from Istanbul to Athens, whereby management themes are combined with island stops along the way. 

Their Leadership program was truly a unique experience integrating modern leadership theories with historical examples of greatness. The program brought my European Leadership Team closer together and made us understand better the cultural and organisational challenges in a global matrix organisation.
